Aunt Jeanette's Bracelet into a necklace

This is a repeat picture of my beloved Aunt Jeanette's Bracelet made into a necklace by me and for me.

My beloved Aunt Jeanette

I have talked so much about the bracelet of my Aunt Jeanette's that I made into a necklace I decided to add a post about her with a picture of my beloved little auntie. Yes she was very small 4'10' to be exact. However if she was alive today she would be 129 years old. I grew up with Aunt Jeanette and she passed on January l958 before my daughter Mary Jeanette was born. Women in her day were small and writing about her now I realize how small she was. She wore a size 2 shoe and when I was young 9 or 10. I had shoes that fit me to play dress up in. As you can see from the picture made in 1926-1928 she was a fashion plate for the day. My mother was 10 years old and they were taking pictures of each other that day and I have some lovely pictures also of my mother. My mother was only 5'2" and she just towered (she thought) over Aunt Jeanette. She had dark brown hair and blue eyes and she was quite the beauty and was the youngest of my great grandmother's brother and sisters. I loved my little auntie it was like she was a child playmate for me. We would walk to the grocery store every morning and she would get out her Parasol to keep the sun off of us so we would  not get all burned and turn brown from the sun. Young ladies during her day were supposed to have untanned white skin. Golly so much has changed.

Mother's Day May 13, 2012

This is a tribute to all my mothers, that had a hand in guiding my path to being an adult and to my first baby. The first of the five generations in my family. I would like to introduce you the the five of us. Starting from the left, my Great Grandmother, "Grandma", my Grandmother "Nanny", my Mother "MaMa" myself Lady Faith, and the baby is my Dear Daughter Mary. There are three of us gone now, but not forgotten. My "Grandma" had more influence on me than she ever knew. I loved her so much, and she love me so much. The street in front of her house was a dirt road when I was little and I hated the sand on my feet when I went to bed at night and she would bring me a wet wash rag and lotion so I could get the sand off and put lotion on to make them cool in our hot summers. When I was a teenager, my "Nanny" managed an exclusive dress shop here in our little town, and I had to cutest clothes in town. She walked to work and worked very hard so we could have the things we needed and probably the things I didn't need, but she loved doing it and I was the apple of her eye until she left us. My "Mama" was with us until 5 years ago and she lived long enough for us to have another 5 generations in my life time. This may not seem exceptional to everyone but it is to me. My baby daughter is still with me and she had two wonderful sons, and a beautiful daughter, and a great granddaughter for the fifth before my "Mama" left us. Such wonderful memories, I have of each one of the women in my life. My mother gave me the strength to make me carry on after losing my youngest daughter, and my husband. For this I will always be grateful. Thank you Grandma for the love, Nanny for the love, Mama for the love and strength. I would not be who I am today without any of the three of you. We were the four generations, that became five generations twice. I hope you all are watching and seeing where I have gone, and where I am going. I keep you in my heart and love always. Not to leave out my Dear Daughter is the most remarkable. She has two remarkable sons and a beautiful daughter a teenager. The boys are grown now but when she was 30 she ran into a burning house and saved an older and sick man from being killed. She is my heroine. I have been so blessed in my live time with my family.

This is my newest piece of my jewelry and it has a lovely story that goes with it. This bracelet was my great great Aunt Jeanette's. When I was 10 years old she let me wear with a special dress that I had and over the years I wore it many times. One of my most memorable times was the summer I was 15. I had a Red Dotted Swiss Dress that was piped in red. I had red sandals and I got to wear the bracelet to the movies with my boyfriend -BOY- I thought I was so grown up and that I looked like a movie star. My great great Aunt was my great grandmother's baby sister and lived for another 6 years. Of course I inherited the bracelet and I love it but I never wore so I decided to make something that I would wear more often and still not scratch the stones or damage the bracelet. I kept the bracelet as it was and used it as a focal and only removed the clasp (saved it) added some wire wrapped red crystals, chain and a hand made clasp. I love it and I know now that bling is so popular I will wear it more.

Today is a great day I started out with my head in Egypt and my body here in the my beautiful city made a computer error and it took some doing and help from Mr. K. Smith to get me out of it and I learned something very quickly and very firmly. So I finally got the head and body together.

I have not done any posting here on the blog other than pictures of my jewelry. Most of these posts are stuff I worked on while taking the Deryn Mentock Build Zone Class. I used an Mother of Pearl Antique Belt Buckle from Grandma's house dress to make one necklace, a sterling Marcasite Cross from Saks, and a cross by my friend and mentor Sonya Haynie. She is a jeweler of merit and has a beautiful website and if you have the time  visit  www.sonyahaynie.com I think that you will enjoy it.

I am also in an Art Charm Group for swapping charms and the last swap I enter we swapped earrings and the last posting is of ten pairs of earring I made for the swap.  Most are different techniques or same technique with a different twist.  The peacock feathers are embossed metal patinated with alcohol inks, 2 embossed metal with heat patina very lightly, and 1 pair heavily patinated with heat, 1 pair of bead dangles, 1 pair of wire wrapped briolettes, 1 pair of brass curling wire with bamboo coral bead, 1 pair of wire swirls, 1 pair of cogs, and 1 pair of metalic coat bead dangs.  I had lots of fun making these and wondering which one of the people in the swap would get them.  Usually I take the charms that I receive from the swaps and make bracelets or necklaces for myself. You will have to check the Archives for the November posts to see these necklaces.

I am going to add some of my work from the Sharon Tomlinson and Deryn Mentock Turrets and Towers Class here on this post and on the next post I will add more The little girl in the turret at the right is a picture of me at age 7 and I was in my dance costume the saying in the picture is a line from an old old 1940's song. .
